The Mexican Revolution (Revolucion Mexicana) was a major armed struggle that started November 20th, 1910 with an uprising led by Fransisco I. Madero against long time autocrat Porfirio Diaz. It is being celebrated today however.

Overt time the Revolution changed from a revolt against the establishment to a multi-sided civil war. After prolonged struggles, its representatives produced the Mexican Constitution of 1917.

The Revolution is generally considered to have lasted until 1920, although the country continued to have sporadic but comparatively minor outbreaks of warfare well into the 1920’s.

The Cristero War was the most significant relapse of bloodshed. The Revolution triggered the creation of the National Revolutionary Party in 1929 (renamed the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI in 1946). Under a variety of leaders the PRI held power until the general election of 2000.

The Canadian government has made a sudden and extremely unpopular requirement for all Mexicans visiting Canada that they must have a visa to enter Canada.

The reason behind this decision seems to be due the sharp rise in the number of those seeking asylum entering the country in the last few years. The same rule evidently has been applied to the Czech Republic.

On July 3rd it was reported Mexicans filed between 8,000-10,000 asylum claims in 2008 which is up about 15% than the year before.

This requirement has severely disrupted the plans of travelers heading to Canada for pleasure, study or business .

Since Monday hundreds of people have gone to the Canadian Consulate in Guadalajara to get more information about the necessary visa. Admission to the building has been refused to all and instead they are being asked to call a toll-free at the Embassy in Mexico City. Those lucky enough (more…)

President Filipe Calderon Hinojosa was born August 18th, 1962 in Morelia, Michoacan and is married to Margarita and has 3 children.

President Calderon has a Bachelor;s Degree in Law and 2 Master”s Degrees in Economics and Public Administration.

Because of his legislative leadership and performance President Calderon was awarded the “NAFTA Congressional Leadership Award” from the Mexico-U S Chamber of Commerce of the “World Leaders of the Future” of the World Economic forum from 1997-2000.
